The Case Processing Laboratory has
recently acquired a Laser Marking system with a DURIP
Award from the USAF. This system can mark or engrave
metal, plastic, glass, or semiconductor materials. An
extensive set of parameters can create resolutions
approaching 7000dpi or mark at speed of up to 5 meters a
second for projects involving lower precision. The
primary application is engraving barcodes on molds and
dies, but many other
applications are possible.
