Abstract:
Bicrystals, which are made by joining to single crystals with specific crystallographic orientations, are useful for structure and property characterization of single grain boundaries, thus the understanding of mechanisms of grain boundary properties. In this colloquium, the results of grain boundary diffusion in α-Al2O3 bicrystals with a SIMS-tracer method will be presented together with the structural characterization via HRTEM, and the mechanisms of grain boundary diffusion will be discussed.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served from 9:30 AM.
